Knowing Your Identity in Christ

Jerimiah 1:5 clearly defines our identity in Christ. God told Jerimiah that even before he was formed into his mother’s womb He (God) knew him (Jerimiah).

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.
Jeremiah 1:5

Your worth or your identity cannot be found anywhere else but in God. Every precious gift and talent you possess is placed in you by God. Until you find your identity in God, you will never be fruitful. There is a void in each of our lives that cannot be filled by the world. No amount of money can replace this emptiness that only the creator (God) can fill. One of my favorite quotes is from the movie Overcomer: “When you find your identity in the One Who created you, it’ll change your whole perspective,” (Cameron Arnett). If I didn’t take anything else from the movie, I took that one quote. It spoke to me on a deeper spiritual level because many people are searching to find themselves in the wrong people and the wrong places; only to still be empty. Why? They haven’t found who they are, and how come they feel even emptier after trying those things? God created that need within each of us. That need to search for worth or acceptance; which He wants to be the only one to fill it. That’s why when someone becomes born again, their whole perspective on life suddenly changes. They don’t have to search for acceptance or try to find their identity anymore because they have experienced all that they desire — and more, through the love of Jesus and the relationship they have with Him. The difference is, that He loves every one of us unconditionally without any strings attached. He wants us to be who we were truly meant to be and that can only happen through believing, repentance, and living a life for Him.

Are you searching to know who you are? I invite you to come and drink from the fountain of life, which is Christ Jesus. Ask Him to come into your life and change the negative perspective the world has about you, and you have about yourself, and ask Him to help you find your true identity in Him. Ask God to wrap His tender arms of love around you, so you can feel accepted and feel a sense of belonging. Ask Him to welcome you into His kingdom because you will never have to fight or act a certain way to feel like you belong.

Pray with me…

Lord Jesus, I believe you are the Son of God. I believe you die on the cross for my sins. I believe that you are alive and sitting on the right hand of your Father in heaven. I invite you to come into my life and change me. I don’t want to do the things I do anymore to feel wanted or accepted. I now know that you have already accepted me. Change my heart and fill me with the love of God. I now have a purpose here on earth and I want to live because I have found my identity in you. Thank you for your blood, and thank you for welcoming me into your kingdom as your child. In Jesus’ name.
Amen!!
