This is a question that we all ask ourselves when we are faced with hardships, going through loneliness, a broken heart, or just stressed altogether: what do I do in this depressing time?
Psalm 77:1-20 is a psalm about Asaph’s feelings of distress which then turned to gratitude. Asaph thought God was far away from him and couldn’t hear his cry. He thought that God had forgotten about him. The extent of his distress has even caused his night sleep to be interrupted because he was too busy doubting his relationship with God.
It was not until Asaph’s focus changed that he got a piece of mind. He has now changed the way of his thinking which was mostly about him and his needs and feelings and not about God. He started to remember all that God had done for him. All God did for his ancestors and God’s faithfulness throughout his… (Asaph’s) life. God did not forget about him. It was all in his mindset, it was all in the way of his thinking. Asaph has now gotten the peace of mind that he wanted to know God did not desert him, and all he needed was a shift—and when he did that his whole perspective about God changed.
God is saying to each one of us that though we may feel like He is distant from us, He never is. Though we feel He doesn’t hear us, He always does. He promised never to leave or forsake us. I have had a few of those moments in my life where I have doubted God’s presence, but then I remember where he has brought me from. I had to remember all the things He has brought me through; not because I deserved it, but because of His faithfulness and love for me.
Feeling a lack of God’s presence in our lives is just a reminder of how much we need Him. Without Him, we are nothing, where would we have ended up without His grace? The devil would love for us to fall into a state of doubt and remain there, but God’s favor and hands are upon us and moving in our lives. God is a good God and He never will stop being good, loving, and merciful.
Whenever you feel the way Asaph did, just shift your focus and remember all God has done for you and the many times he has been present and faithful in your life.
Father in heaven, thank you that you are a most faithful God. We can count on you to bring comfort and peace when we feel distressed, depressed, and lost. Thank you for loving us. In Jesus’ name.
Amen!
Thank you for the reminder. Lovely post!
You are welcome sis. God Bless!
